Home Office Cleaning Tips
In the new digital age working from home is becoming easier and more popular. If you are working from home you probably have a home office which is very similar to an office space at a business. Thus home offices can become dusty, dirty and disorganized for many of the same reasons as an office building. Over time dust and germs build up and paper can create clutter all of which can affect your health and productivity. Here are several home office cleaning tips to help you maintain a clean home office space.
Ventilation: Unlike office buildings homes don’t necessarily have industrial HVAC systems to keep air circulating. When air is not being circulating efficiently dust tends to build up at a quicker rate. Dust can be damaging to your electronics and health. We recommend having a fan in your home office to help circulate air to slow down dust build-up.
Reduce Clutter: Paper clutter can negatively affect you and office space in three ways. Number one it creates a disorganized work space. Number two paper fibers create dust. Number three cluttered areas have higher bacteria counts. You should on a weekly basis sort through paper that you do not need and take the time to get organized.
Disinfect: Germs are everywhere and in your home office germs build up on items such as your telephone, keyboard, computer mouse and desktop. It is not uncommon for people to eat lunch in their home office. Eating lunch at a desk whether it is at home or not drastically increases bacteria growth. We recommend disinfecting your desk area and electronics to kill bacteria and create a healthier work environment.
Protect your Floors: Whether your home office is carpeted or a hard surface it is important to protect your floors by purchasing a floor mat for your chair. Rolling chairs are the most common type of chair in an office; unfortunately the wheels on the bottom can untwist and damage carpet fiber as well as scratch hard surface floors. It is important to protect your floors from a rolling chair by purchasing a floor mat and by replacing it when it wears.
